Setting the tone early: last night’s CPI report knocked the rebound straight back into defense.
$BTC is now around 81,555, down 2.3% over 24 hours. It touched a high of 84,147 last night before getting slammed back down. $ETH 2,419 is down 3.5%, clearly weaker than BTC. Over in U.S. stocks, the Nasdaq fell 1.88%, the S&P 500 dropped 1.11%, and the semiconductor index has now fallen for six straight days. September CPI came in at 3.7% year over year, above the 3.6% forecast, pushing the odds of a rate hike in October back up. This isn’t a crypto-specific problem—the entire risk-asset market is under pressure from Treasury yields.
My view is simple: don’t rush to buy the dip during the day. The 81,000–81,400 area is a support zone analysts are watching closely, and it’s already been tested repeatedly from last night into this morning. Funding rates are BTC +0.0047% and ETH +0.0011%—neither is crowded, suggesting this isn’t a long squeeze so much as selling in spot markets and pressure from macro factors. ETF inflows of $175.7 million on October 13 offer some cushion, but the five-day total is still negative. Don’t mistake a single day of inflows for a reversal.
The real dividing line today is 20:30 Beijing time, when U.S. PPI, retail sales, and initial jobless claims are all released. If PPI comes in hot again, 81,000 will likely fail to hold. Analysts see 80,365 as the next level, then 78,000 below that. If PPI cools and price can reclaim 84,300, my defensive view is invalidated; then we can look toward resistance at 86,000.
Be even more cautious with altcoins today: $WAL has pulled back from a high of 0.06786 to around 0.0566. It failed to reclaim the previously set 0.0623 level, so the short-term trend has weakened—don’t chase it. NIL is up about 15% against the trend, but I haven’t found a clear new catalyst, and it has already pulled back over the past hour. Just keep an eye on it.
This is only my personal review and does not guarantee returns. Make your own decisions about position size and stop-losses. Do you think tonight’s PPI will come in hot or cool? Do you think 81,000 will hold?
