Amid the dispute between Kyiv and Washington, a question has resurfaced: how stable is Ukraine’s access to Starlink satellite communications?

🔹 What do we know?

▪️ Starlink imposes speed restrictions on terminals in motion. Separate restrictions apply in Ukraine, agreed upon with the Ukrainian government.

▪️ Since February 2026, terminal verification has been introduced in Ukraine: only authorized devices are allowed to operate. The goal is to counter the use of Starlink by Russian forces.

▪️ On October 13, Reuters reported that Donald Trump defended agreements on the supply of Russian diesel, which drew criticism over the potential revenue Russia could earn from exports.

🔹 Could Starlink become a tool of pressure?

A Politico article discusses concerns that Trump might try to influence Elon Musk to restrict Ukraine’s access to Starlink.

But one important clarification is needed here: this is a warning about a possible scenario, not confirmation that a decision to disconnect service has already been made.

Likewise, reports of alleged new widespread outages due to speed restrictions above 160 km/h require independent confirmation.

🔹 Why is this important?

Starlink is an important part of Ukraine’s communications infrastructure, particularly for military communications. Dependence on a single provider therefore poses a strategic risk, even if no disconnection is currently taking place.

Backup communication channels, alternative satellite access systems, and resilient infrastructure are not just technological issues, but matters of national security.

📊 What do you think?

Should Ukraine accelerate the development of alternatives to Starlink to reduce its dependence on decisions made by a private American company?
