ARB is up nearly 9% in 24 hours, just as the T-2 unlock countdown begins—the price is rising right into potential selling pressure. I’ve seen this play out more than once.
On October 16, Arbitrum will unlock around 92.65 million ARB all at once, worth about $18 million at current prices and equal to roughly 1.56% of the circulating supply. The tokens are allocated to the team, future team members, and advisors. It’s a cliff unlock, so they’ll be released in one go.
What’s interesting is that ARB has held up well over the past couple of days: after bottoming around $0.162 on October 8, it has rebounded by more than 20% and is now trading near $0.19. On the positive side, Paxos’s USD stablecoin USDG launched natively on Arbitrum One on October 6, and the chain is leading in stablecoin growth. On the negative side, there’s the unlock just ahead. No one can say for sure whether the team will sell after receiving its tokens, but after a similar-sized unlock on September 16 last month, the price did come under pressure for a while.
My take: the unlock itself isn’t a disaster; what matters is two things. First, how much of that roughly $18 million will actually hit the market. Team tokens are often sold in batches, and a full liquidation all at once is rare. Second, will the leveraged longs that piled in ahead of the unlock get stopped out en masse on the 16th? Prices often react to predictable supply events 1–2 days in advance. A “sell the rumor, buy the news” rebound on the day of the unlock isn’t unusual either—but that’s just a historical pattern, not a guarantee. Spot traders can wait for the volatility around the unlock to pass before reassessing. Futures traders should watch the recent high-volume zone around $0.183–$0.186: if it breaks, don’t stubbornly hold on. Set your position size and stop-loss first.

I’ll keep tracking these unlock calendars, so follow me to stay in the loop. What do you think—will ARB drop first and bounce on the 16th, or get crushed outright?
