$USDC One event on today's market calendar went almost unnoticed amid the bank earnings reports — even though it matters more than any quarterly profit to part of the DeFi ecosystem.
Today, October 13, Circle officially stopped issuing new USDC on the Noble network — a Cosmos-based blockchain that once became the main stablecoin hub for the entire IBC ecosystem, consolidating more than 100 fragmented versions of USDC into one.
The reason is Circle's move to the new CCTP V2 protocol for cross-chain transfers, which Noble will not receive. This is not a problem with USDC itself, but an architectural decision: Circle is consolidating its infrastructure around the new standard and leaving the old network behind.
For token holders on Noble, this is not an immediate catastrophe — transfers and redemptions will remain available until January 12, 2027, while CCTP V1 exit limits will begin to decrease on October 31. The network had $91.6 million in USDC circulating — already down from $101.3 million a month earlier, meaning some users began withdrawing funds in advance.
For the Cosmos ecosystem, this means losing its main channel for dollar liquidity, which will have to be replaced somehow.
