Digital cash is on hold for now

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand said today
that it’s putting its digital cash plan on hold
and shifting its focus to upgrading the payments system
and introducing real-time retail payments

Note: this isn’t a rejection
Officials say they’ll modernize the infrastructure first
so it can still support digital currencies later

Put simply,
fix the roads first,
then decide whether to put anything on them

Countries are slowing down, not racing ahead
I’ll keep this in mind as background
but won’t treat it as a signal to change course today
