According to supply chain sources cited by Chinese media, Apple has increased orders for its foldable iPhone Duo by 30%. The total number of iPhone 18 Pro series orders remains unchanged, but more orders are shifting toward the Pro Max. However, Nikkei Asia also reported that component orders for the Pro series in October were cut by at least 15%, pointing to mixed demand signals.

Reports say orders for the iPhone Duo have surged 30%! Total volume remains below 10 million units

China Securities Journal cited supply chain sources on the 10th as saying that Apple has reallocated orders for its new phones launching in fall 2026. Orders for the foldable iPhone Duo have increased by about 30%, but the total remains below 10 million units. Orders for the iPhone 18 Pro have been cut by 10% to 15%, while those for the iPhone 18 Pro Max have been raised by the same amount.

Apple is shifting capacity from the standard model to the higher-priced Pro Max. Supply chain sources believe that concentrating shipments in higher-priced models will be more beneficial to component makers’ revenue.

Are Pro series orders being cut or switched? Nikkei: October component orders down 15%

However, an exclusive report by Nikkei Asia on the 9th, citing two people familiar with the matter, said that soaring memory prices have pushed up the prices of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max by $100 each in the US, to $1,199 and $1,299, respectively, weakening demand. Apple has asked suppliers to cut October component orders by at least 15%, with one executive estimating the reduction at 15% to 20%.

Because lead times vary for different components, only some suppliers’ production volumes will be affected this month, and it remains unclear whether orders will be cut further in November. Supply chain sources also noted that orders have been relatively soft since late August, partly because the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air have been delayed until spring 2027, with orders for related components not expected to begin until the end of the year.

Higher iPhone Duo orders may benefit Foxconn, TSMC, and Shin Zu Shing

The iPhone Duo is expected to open for preorders in Taiwan on October 16 and go on sale on the 23rd. It starts at NT$74,900 in Taiwan and $1,999 in the US, making it the most expensive phone in Apple’s history. Its high price, coupled with reports of additional orders, has led the market to expect the related supply chain’s fourth-quarter revenue to receive support. Institutional investors and market analysts have compiled the following list of Taiwanese companies that may benefit, though actual supply relationships should be confirmed through company announcements.

  • Foxconn (2317): Solely responsible for assembly

  • TSMC (2330): Responsible for manufacturing the A20 Pro processor using a 2-nanometer process

  • Shin Zu Shing (3376): The market estimates that it could secure 65% of foldable phone hinge orders. In March this year, the company also formed a joint venture with Foxconn subsidiary FII.

  • Largan Precision (3008), Genius Electronic Optical (3406): Named as potential beneficiaries of demand for thinner designs and variable-aperture lenses.

  • AVC (3017), Auras (3324): Thermal management

  • Zhen Ding-KY (4958), TUC (2383): Circuit boards and materials

  • Delta Electronics (2308): Responsible for power components

How many iPhone Duo units will sell this year? Analysts forecast 5–6 million

Counterpoint Research estimates that the iPhone Duo will sell around 6 million units this year, while TrendForce forecasts approximately 5 million units. TrendForce also estimates that Apple could capture about 24.8% of the global foldable phone market this year, second only to Samsung. However, the final results will depend on how quickly Apple can ramp up production.
