The BCV published a rate of 876.7976 Bs per dollar for October 13, 2026. On the same day, USDT on the P2P market is bought at 1,024.7789 Bs and sold at 976.4919 Bs, according to Radar P2P’s aggregated reference. The difference is simple: 147.98 Bs per crypto dollar, equivalent to a 16.88% premium over the official rate.

The daily headline usually stops there. The problem is that this 16.88% is just the visible part of something more troubling: an official rate that moves by tiny increments and a P2P market that moves every day, around the clock. And here’s a figure almost no one compares: the real cost of trading depends more on the bank and payment method than on the BCV rate.

📊 Three figures that don’t move at the same pace

• BCV rate (USD): 876.7976 Bs. Official source, with no change recorded in the latest update.

• USDT P2P: buying at 1,024.7789 Bs and selling at 976.4919 Bs. An internal spread of 48.29 Bs, equivalent to 4.94%.

• P2P premium vs. BCV: 16.88%. This is our own calculation based on the two figures above, not a published figure.

None of these three figures is new on its own. What matters is that only one of them reacts quickly.

📈 How the 16.88% premium is calculated

The premium is a division: the P2P price divided by the BCV rate, minus one. Any change in the result can come from the numerator—that is, the cost of USDT—or the denominator, which is what the Central Bank reports. That distinction completely changes how you interpret it.

When the official rate rises 0.13% in four days while P2P holds between 1,010 and 1,025 Bs, the premium increases without any sharp jump in demand. It’s the denominator that stays still. In plain Venezuelan terms: the premium doesn’t just measure demand for dollars; it also measures how slowly the official benchmark catches up with the market price.

Interpretation, not fact: a high premium against a rigid rate does not in itself imply a currency run; it may simply reflect the gap between an administered price and one formed daily between individuals.

🔎 The BCV’s pace: 875.6505 on the 9th and 876.7976 on the 13th

The BCV’s own data let us measure the pace. On October 9, the rate stood at 875.6505 Bs per dollar, with a 0.105% change reported by Finanzas Digital. On October 13, it reached 876.7976 Bs. Over four days, it rose by 1.1471 Bs, or 0.131%.

For October 1, El Estímulo’s press reference cited an exchange rate that had topped 860 Bs. That’s an approximate floor, not an exact figure, and should be treated as such: using it as a baseline, the rate would have risen by around 16.8 Bs over twelve days, or close to 1.95%—an average of 1.4 Bs per day. The comparison with what’s happening in P2P is stark: the difference between the USDT buy and sell prices on the same day alone is 48.29 Bs. The official rate moved 1.15 Bs in four days.

That’s the asymmetry that explains the premium better than any speech.

💰 The second signal: the euro confirms the pattern

The comparison with the European benchmark reinforces this reading. The BCV puts the euro at 982.0045 Bs, while the parallel-market reference for the euro is 1,147.74 Bs. The resulting gap is 16.88%, virtually identical to the dollar’s, which comes to 16.8773% using the same calculation.

When two different currencies show exactly the same gap against their official benchmarks, it no longer looks like a one-off misalignment in the dollar. It looks like a broader pattern: the P2P market is valuing every currency above its benchmark, regardless of which one it is. That’s a measurable fact, not an opinion.

🛡️ Spread by bank: from 0.38% to 3.42%

Here’s the part that almost never makes the headline. The average spread between the buy and sell price varies dramatically depending on the bank or payment method chosen:
