On October 12, the XRP Ledger Foundation issued a statement addressing recent questions about “minting” prompted by the xrpld 3.4.1 security fix: the issue did not create any new XRP, and the total supply has been fixed at 100 billion since the ledger launched.

Mechanically, XRP’s supply cap is built into the protocol rules, and ordinary transactions cannot exceed this hard limit. The total amount of XRP verifiable on-chain is currently about 99.986 billion, slightly below the original 100 billion. This difference is generally related to mechanisms such as account activation burns.

The Foundation also emphasized that the release containing the security fix was deployed through community consensus. Its purpose was to close a path that could potentially bypass the fixed supply limit, addressing concerns while improving network security.

For the market, the short-term focus is not on price, but on whether the “fixed supply” trust anchor remains solid. If similar security incidents occur in the future, how transparently the community discloses information and coordinates upgrade timelines may increasingly become a key factor in how people assess the quality of public blockchains.
