📰 Citrini Research released a 79-page report with a pretty direct central thesis: AI agents may use blockchains as round-the-clock financial backends, but that doesn’t mean BTC and ETH will necessarily be the biggest beneficiaries.

🔥 The report argues that agents can move money across apps 24/7 and choose institutions or protocols with higher returns, without being influenced by brand loyalty or established processes the way humans are. The authors also raise an unsettling question: if large numbers of agents keep moving deposits elsewhere, could traditional banks come under pressure from funding costs and liquidity constraints?

💡 So the report’s investment thesis isn’t to keep focusing only on major tokens, but to look at who can consistently collect fees from trading, lending, payments, and yield services. It recommends focusing on DeFi protocols and infrastructure companies, and lists protocols such as Derive, Lighter, and ether.fi, as well as companies such as Securitize, Circle, and Coinbase.

👀 The crypto portfolio disclosed in the report has no allocation to BTC or ETH. Derivatives-related assets make up about 39%, while yield and staking assets account for around 27%. The authors also caution against assuming that major tokens will hit new highs because of this trend; the real question is who ultimately captures the value as on-chain finance expands.

🤔 I think this thesis is worth discussing, but the report’s portfolio itself isn’t the answer. Are you more bullish on DeFi protocols that collect fees, or do you think BTC and ETH will still capture most of the value?
