【October 12 · Evening Market Review】Bitcoin paints a doji, altcoins diverge: the real thing to watch overnight is the events

1️⃣ Bitcoin $BTC is stuck: traded sideways all day between 82,982 and 84,348 (OKX perpetuals; snapshot at around 20:23 Beijing time: 83,076). It touched 84,348 at noon, then pulled back. 84,000–85,000 is the toughest resistance, and today marks the third time it has failed to break above it. Funding rates are neutral (BTC 0.0083%/8h, ETH 0.0013%/8h), with the market waiting for U.S. CPI at 20:30 Wednesday evening.

2️⃣ The short-squeeze stars have all lost steam: $W fell from 0.031832 to 0.0264, giving back around 17% in a day and breaking below the 0.027 invalidation level, confirming a reversal. RSR also pulled back from 0.00258 to 0.002404. Tokens driven purely by short-squeeze sentiment rise fast and fall just as quickly.

3️⃣ The new baton carrier: $FIL is up 12.6% to around 1.24, with a 24-hour high of 1.2769. It isn't running on sentiment alone—vesting ends on October 15, new issuance is being cut by 75%, and the Solstice upgrade is also scheduled for October 19. But 1.30 is firm resistance, and RSI is nearing 66, so chasing at this level doesn't offer much upside for the risk.

My take (personal opinion, not investment advice):

- Overnight, keep an eye on events, not the chart. Several are clustered on October 15: STRK unlocks 127 million tokens (about 3.37% of circulating supply), Sonic airdrop claims close, and FIL vesting tokens are released. With good news potentially priced in or selling pressure building, the next couple of days will be a test for altcoins.
- If $BTC breaks below the lower boundary of the 83,000 range, the sideways structure will weaken; going long before it gets above 85,000 would be aggressive.
- $FIL is still worth watching if it pulls back to around 1.11; a break below 1.11 would signal weakness, so don't stubbornly hold on.

Risk warning: Ahead of CPI, the market is at the mercy of headlines, and volatility may increase. Around unlock and vesting dates, there is a greater risk of “selling the news.” Keep futures positions small and use stop-losses; protecting your principal comes first. Returns are not guaranteed.

❓Question: Before Wednesday's CPI release, do you think Bitcoin will hit 85,000 first or drop to 82,000 first? Share your thoughts in the comments.
