Someone says Ethereum could hit $50,000 this cycle. From $2,552, that would mean nearly 20x—but ETH spot ETFs saw $542 million in net outflows over the past week 🦖
Tom Lee, chairman of Ethereum treasury company Bitmine, recently said Ethereum could reach $25,000 to $50,000 in this market cycle, with a year-end target above $5,000. He also laid out a condition: if Bitcoin climbs above $100,000, Ethereum could reach around $7,500.

First, let’s look at the numbers. Ethereum is currently around $2,552, up about 2.1% in 24 hours. Rising from $2,552 to $5,000 would require a gain of about 96%; reaching $25,000 would mean roughly 9.8x, and $50,000 roughly 19.6x 💥 His reasoning is that ETH has traded within a similar range for the past five years, and the longer it builds a base, the greater the potential breakout could be.
But the fund flows are moving in the opposite direction. Ethereum spot ETFs saw $542 million in net outflows last week, marking nine consecutive trading days of outflows. BlackRock’s ETHA alone saw $477 million flow out ⚠️ On one side, analysts are calling for a doubling; on the other, real money is being redeemed.
What makes it even more intriguing is that Tom Lee himself is one of the biggest buyers. Bitmine, which he leads, has accumulated around 6.016 million ETH, or 4.9% of the circulating supply, worth about $15.5 billion. He has said explicitly that he’ll stop buying once he reaches 5%, which is about 100,000 ETH away. At the current pace, he could hit that limit in another six to seven weeks. He’s calling for $50,000 while setting a cap on his own buying.
In other words, price targets and fund flows are two different things. A target is a long-term narrative; fund flows are a vote on what’s happening now. Ethereum has a narrative and expectations of upgrades, but new capital hasn’t returned yet. The two things worth watching are when spot ETF outflows stop and turn positive, and whether ETH can first hold firmly above a key level before we talk about $5,000.
