South Korea plans to move bonds onto the blockchain

South Korea’s Financial Services Commission has proposed new rules. Tokenized securities would no longer be limited to fractional investments.

Stocks, bonds, and funds are all in the mix, and bonds would get a dedicated over-the-counter trading license.

The proposal is still open for public comment and won’t take effect until next February. The first phase will cover money market funds and bonds for institutions only.

All publicly offered securities will have to wait for the second phase. Only in the third phase will on-chain settlement connected to stablecoins come into play.

In short, this is a roadmap for bringing traditional finance onto the blockchain—not something you’ll be able to buy tomorrow.

I’ll put tokenization plays like $ONDO on my watchlist and wait for the details to be finalized.
