From April 5 to 8, 2023, the ETH Beijing hackathon will be held at MetaSpace, China's first Web3 Metaverse Cafe, located in Wudaokou, Beijing. The hackathon event is co-organized by PKU Blockchain DAO and Web3 open source university WTF Academy, and co-sponsored by non-profit Ethereum organization ETHPlanet and Ethereum second-layer solution Scroll. The event also received sponsorship support from ten well-known industry organizations including Ethereum Foundation ESP, Scroll, and Bixin Ventures.
Speaking of why this event was launched, PKU Blockchain DAO President & WTF Academy Founder 0xAA was interviewed by the Ethereum Foundation ESP Devcon team and introduced to the international community: “China has just opened up to the world from three years of pandemic lockdown. Chinese Ethereum Builders have not held local events for many years, and China has become the most underestimated community in the world. We are eager to meet in Beijing and bring the energy back!”
Initially, the supporters of ETH Beijing Hackathon were mainly composed of community members of PKU Blockchain DAO and WTF Academy. Now, in addition to the support from blockchain associations of more than 20 top universities in China, including Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, and Hong Kong University, we have also received support from technical communities such as DoraHacks, Whaler, dapplearning, and Tintinland.
Sponsors such as Ethereum Foundation ESP, Scroll, Bixin Ventures, Token Pocket, Starkware, Mask Network, LD Capital, Cocos BCX, Aspecta, Galxe, etc. provided a lot of help to this event, not limited to sponsorship support. What’s more surprising is that core members from many well-known project parties and VCs such as Consensys and Chainlink will also come to the event site to build the strongest hackathon of ETH Beijing with everyone.
Since the event was officially launched on February 21, after three rounds of screening, 150 outstanding developers from the Chinese and international communities have stood out from 400 applicants. All selected participants will receive free meals, and students from non-Beijing universities can also receive accommodation and travel subsidies.
During the 72-hour competition, participants will develop projects in three main tracks: public goods, innovative Layer2 applications, and open research, as well as the Scroll and Bixin sponsor tracks. In addition to winning prizes worth more than $30,000, the winning teams in the finals will also receive subsequent investment and incubation opportunities.
During the event, mentors and judges composed of organizers, co-organizers, sponsors and supporting communities will also provide on-site technical guidance to the contestants.
