Unlocking on the same day, but the pressure is worlds apart:
On October 15, $STRK will unlock 127 million tokens, equal to 3.37% of the circulating supply. On the same day, $SEI will release just 55.56 million tokens—less than 1% of its circulating supply.
Don’t look at the amount alone when assessing an unlock. Two things matter:
1️⃣ Share of circulating supply: STRK at 3.37%, SEI at 0.84%—a full 4x difference
2️⃣ Who receives the tokens: STRK goes to early contributors and investors, who are most likely to cash out. SEI is released linearly from the ecosystem reserve, with the foundation controlling the pace—more like getting paid a salary than a sell-off.
What to make of it: SEI’s unlock is less than 1% of the circulating supply, smaller than the price swing on an ordinary day. Historically, prices barely moved in the week after several previous unlocks. The real selling pressure rarely comes on the unlock date itself—the market often prices it in 1–2 days ahead, making “sell the news” a possibility once it happens. Don’t chase prices before the unlock; keep an eye on funding rates and spot buying, then decide after the tokens are released.
When you assess an unlock, do you look at the share of circulating supply first, or who receives the tokens? #TokenUnlock
