The XRP Ledger revealed one of the most serious vulnerabilities ever found in its payment engine.
An integer overflow bug made it possible to create hundreds of artificial offers and execute a specially crafted payment capable of:

And this $XRP could be moved and spent normally.
The investigation indicates that the problem had probably existed since 2015.
But here’s the most important detail↴
✅ THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT THE BUG WAS EXPLOITED ON ANY PUBLIC NETWORK.
The vulnerability was discovered through the XRPL bug bounty program. RippleX reproduced the attack in an isolated environment and confirmed that the artificially created XRP could be spent. The severity was then raised to CRITICAL.

And an exceptional decision was made.
Normally, changes to XRPL processing go through the amendments system and validator voting.
This time, the fix was applied directly in the update because disclosing the bug before protection was in place could have left it exploitable for weeks.
It was the first time in more than 10 years that a change of this kind was deliberately distributed this way.
Version 3.4.1 also fixed another vulnerability related to Batch transactions; fixBatchV1_2 was activated on mainnet on October 9.
