$AERO is merging with Velodrome to form a single exchange called Aero. The upgrade page is already live, and the switch will officially happen on Thursday morning the week after next, Beijing time. VELO holders will receive just 5.5% of the new AERO in total.

AERO is the token of Aerodrome, a DEX on Base. Locking it lets you vote on which pools receive new token rewards, and earn a share of those pools’ fees.

The two projects actually come from the same team. Velodrome is on OP Mainnet, while Aerodrome is on Base. They work the same way, but their liquidity is split across the two chains.

The merger was announced at the end of last year. It was originally supposed to launch in the first half of this year, but was later delayed until now. The share allocated to VELO holders was also set at the time.

The new tokens won’t be exchanged automatically. You’ll need to use the upgrade page on the old website yourself, and the swap can’t be reversed.

At the time of the switch, emissions of the old AERO and VELO will stop entirely. Liquidity must be moved to the new pools to earn rewards.

From launch, Aero will run on Base, Ethereum Mainnet, OP, Arbitrum, Robinhood Chain, and other chains, rather than staying on just one chain.

For tokens held on exchanges, the team says it has coordinated with the major exchanges, and each one will announce its own token swap process.
