The Ontology mainnet, where $ONT is located, has stopped producing blocks. South Korean exchange Upbit announced early this morning Beijing time that deposits and withdrawals for ONT, ONG, and MBL, which runs on the same chain, would be suspended.

ONT is Ontology’s native token. Staking it with nodes lets holders participate in consensus and earn ONG, which is used to pay transaction fees on the chain.

The latest block on the block explorer dates back to last night Beijing time, and no new blocks have been produced since.

This isn’t the first time. Ontology urgently halted its mainnet in late August. It later said it had detected a malicious attack on the network, and that operations resumed after nodes upgraded to a new version.

At the end of last month, citing security and stability assessments, the team also ended a consensus cycle early and shut down stONT liquid staking, returning staked ONT to users’ wallets.

The team has yet to issue a statement about this incident, and there have been no updates on its website or X.

Upbit says trading will continue as usual, with only deposits and withdrawals suspended. Transferring tokens to the exchange during this period could mean they won’t be credited—or might not be recoverable.
