Bitcoin is up 0.43% at 82.8K, while Ethereum is flat. The broader market is going sideways today. The top three gainers have changed, but I want to start with the three coins I picked at noon, because the results weren’t good.
All three of my picks at noon—STRK, ATOM, and KAIA—fell. STRK dropped from 0.0729 to 0.07122, down 2.30%; ATOM fell from 2.067 to 1.93, down 6.63%; and KAIA slipped from 0.0601 to 0.0561, down 6.66%. The broader market was up, but all three of my picks fell. That’s underperformance, and I have to own it.
STRK is especially worth noting. I picked it yesterday at noon, and it gained 32%. Today, I picked it again using the same criteria, and it fell 2.3%. The same coin, the same logic, but the opposite result. That shows this approach stopped working after it had already risen 41% in a row. At a more expensive price level, trading volume and structure are no longer advantages.
The top three gainers today were MAGIC, up 46.64% on $74.6 million in trading volume; LUMIA, up 38.47% on $15.1 million; and OP, up 11.86% on $18 million. MAGIC is a long-established project in gaming and AI. I couldn’t find any major news; the rise was driven by a surge in volume and net spot inflows, and it has now risen for three days straight. I couldn’t find any specific news about LUMIA.
One detail is worth noting. L2 scaling was the only sector-wide momentum theme highlighted by my capital radar this morning. OP is up 11.86% today, continuing that move, but STRK, in the same sector, fell instead. Leadership is shifting within the sector, with money flowing from STRK to OP.
My conclusion is straightforward: my coin picks failed today. All three fell while the broader market rose. Over the past two days, I’ve relied too heavily on the combination of rising volume and chart structure, but that approach doesn’t work on coins that have already been rising for several days. Going forward, I’ll pay more attention to whether a coin is at an attractive price level instead of looking only at trading volume.
