Ledger is investigating devices sold by Southeast Asian distributor CryptoBilis. Several buyers have reported that their assets were transferred out, and the company has asked the distributor to suspend sales and shipments. Users who bought a device in the past 90 days but haven’t set it up are advised to hold off on activating it. Those who have already used one may want to consider replacing the device and generating a new recovery phrase.
This morning, blockchain analytics firm Bitquery counted 311 affected wallets across five chains, with losses totaling about $92.9 million. Tether has frozen $10 million in USDT, while 1,254 units of $ETH flowed into Tornado Cash.
Ledger has not confirmed the amounts or the cause. The investigation is currently focused on one distribution channel, and there’s no evidence that Ledger’s systems as a whole have been compromised. The next questions to investigate are where these devices were sourced and how the recovery phrases inside the boxes were generated.
