If two people open a P2P platform’s bank comparison tool at the same time, they will most likely see different figures. This is not a tool error or a sign of manipulation: it is the natural consequence of each person looking at a different point in a market that moves minute by minute. This guide explains the four concepts that help you interpret those figures—spread, premium over the BCV rate, order book depth, and concentration of offers by bank—using a real snapshot of the Venezuelan market.
All the figures in this text come from a snapshot taken on October 10, 2026, at 02:00 UTC, using data from Radar P2P, the BCV, and the aggregated order book from Binance and other platforms. They’re a snapshot, not a promise: any later reading may be different.
📊 Why two people see different prices in the same market
Five reasons explain this phenomenon, and none of them have anything to do with someone lying:
• Which side of the order book you’re looking at. Buying USDT and selling USDT don’t happen at the same price. In the snapshot, Radar P2P showed 1,025.03 Bs for someone buying USDT and 989.31 Bs for someone selling. That’s a difference of 35.72 Bs between the two ends.
• When the snapshot was taken. An offer posted ten minutes ago may have changed its price or sold out.
• The payment method. A merchant who operates using Pago Móvil is not the same as one who only accepts bank transfers or “other methods.”
• Each listing’s limits. An ad with a maximum limit of 100 USDT won’t work for someone looking to move 5,000.
• The source exchange. The aggregated order book in this snapshot combined Binance and other platforms, and their best prices didn’t match.
A concrete example of this difference: while Radar P2P showed 1,025.03 Bs as a buy reference, the aggregated order book showed a best ask of 1,015.90 Bs and a best bid of 1,015.50 Bs. Do they contradict each other? No: the comparison tool uses broad references from the overall market, while the order book measures the best available levels at an exact moment.
📈 Spread: the first figure to look at
The spread is the gap between the price at which you can buy and the price at which you can sell the same asset at the same time. It’s the most honest measure of the implicit cost of entering and exiting the market.
The snapshot shows two very different spreads, and understanding why helps you read any dashboard:
• Comparison-tool spread (Radar P2P): 35.72 Bs, equivalent to 3.61%. It’s calculated using the reference prices at either end of the overall market.
• Order book spread: 0.40 Bs on a midpoint of 1,015.70 Bs, equivalent to 0.04%. It’s calculated using only the book’s two best levels, which are usually the most competitive.
Neither one is “the right one.” The order book spread tells you how tight the market’s top of book is; the comparison-tool spread tells you how wide the overall range is within which you’ll have to trade. A wide spread isn’t a fee someone charges you: it’s the range within which the price moves depending on which side you’re on.
To put it in perspective: according to the P2P calculator, selling 100 USDT at the reference price of 989.31 Bs would yield about 98,930.85 Bs, and one million bolivars at the same price would be equivalent to about 1,010.81 USDT. Figures like these change with every market update.
🔎 Premium over the BCV: what it measures and what it doesn’t
The premium is the percentage difference between the USDT price on the P2P market and the official BCV rate. In this snapshot, the BCV rate was 876.7976 Bs per dollar, and USDT P2P was quoted at 1,025.03 Bs: a 16.91% premium.
Here, it’s important to be precise, because this is where the most confusion arises. If you use the midpoint between the buy and sell prices (1,007.17 Bs) instead of the buy price, the premium drops to about 14.9%. Both figures describe the same market, but use different reference prices. When you see two different premium percentages, the first thing to ask is: which price was it calculated from?
