Why, when you send some bitcoin, does the block explorer show that some of it went back to another address of your own?
The account model is more like a regular bank account: the balance is easy to see, and writing smart contracts is more convenient. The trade-off is that transactions from the same account must be processed in nonce order.
Bitcoin uses the UTXO (unspent transaction output) model: each transaction consumes several existing outputs and creates some new ones.
When I first got into crypto, I thought knowing how to read candlestick charts was enough. It turned out that understanding the rules was the first lesson.
