Saturday morning market check: the biggest story wasn’t even crypto.
$SPCX has snapped up Grain’s batch of 800 MHz spectrum and is heading straight for “the fourth-largest carrier” title. T-Mobile plunged over 12% on Friday, while AT&T and Verizon were down 8% and 9%. All three telecom giants took a beating, while tower stocks surged 7%–16%. This story feels a lot more tangible than many crypto projects right now: at least they’re signing an actual deal with real money on the line, instead of issuing a token and selling a pipe dream.
Over on the crypto side, $BTC scared everyone by breaking below $81,000 on Thursday, then bounced back to around $83,000 on Friday. ETFs saw $729 million in outflows over two days, and $1.09 billion in positions were liquidated across the market in 24 hours—85% of them longs. This round has really shaken out the bulls. The $80,000 level is holding for now, but money is still flowing out, so I’m going to keep watching.
All three major U.S. stock indexes also closed higher on Friday, with the S&P 500 just a hair away from a record high. Trump said he wouldn’t take action against Iran before the midterm elections, and oil prices fell in response. Safe-haven demand eased, and gold slipped back to around $4,190. Not much happening on Saturday—kicking back and watching the drama is pretty nice too 😎
