THE BURSTING OF A SILICON BUBBLE
You can keep a lie going for a week; sometimes it can last a few months, and in very exceptional cases, a few years. But eventually, the balloon of lies bursts. The powerful take advantage of cognitive dissonance when they shout at you, “Hey, you, don’t look up!”
There are events that need no explanation, because they bring with them the beginning and the end of everything sold as a marvelous contraption, like the picturesque monorail used to swindle the residents of Springfield on The Simpsons.
The truth arrives without warning and teaches us with a few punches that the purest truth is not negotiable and knows no time. Sometimes the world seems to spin too fast, full of noise, haste, and empty promises. But just knowing that you exist, that you breathe the same air, is enough for everything else to fall back into its proper place.
It doesn’t matter which paths you choose to walk, or how far the horizon takes you; the truth will catch up with you. It will be painful: prisons, disappointments. Humanity has been deceived; some will shout! It won’t be the first time. The good news is that you can return to a safe harbor and know that tomorrow is worth it, that it’s worth believing again.
It already happened in the year 2000, and no one believed it until it hit them like a comet. And it will happen again—well before the end of the 2030s. Stay alert so the burst doesn’t catch you off guard. Let the rich and powerful lose their money and their freedom; we’ll watch from our sofa as the arrogant, overbearing skinny guy is led off in handcuffs on his way to prison. Parrots don’t have to stop giving us that gift of conversations full of lies; the difference is that we’ll know it’s just a parrot.
