Bitcoin life insurer raises $37.5 million, with all funding coming from existing investors

Bermuda-based Meanwhile has just raised $37.5 million in new funding at a $350 million valuation, bringing its total funding to over $180 million. There are no new faces in this round: lead investor Bain Capital Crypto, along with Pantera and Apollo, are all existing investors.

It sells life insurance denominated in bitcoin: customers pay their premiums in BTC upfront, and death benefits are also paid in BTC. The policy lasts for life, and after one year, policyholders can borrow against it for up to 90% of its value. The company has signed up 15 brokers, covering Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE, and Switzerland.

Interestingly, its reserves and audit reports are all recorded in $BTC , not US dollars.

The catch is that this round was existing investors doubling down, not new money coming in. And its flagship single-premium policy is only available to high-net-worth clients outside the US.

Do you think bitcoin life insurance will become a must-have for bitcoin-holding households, or remain a niche product? Share your thoughts in the comments.
