Even though there are spot ETH ETFs, there still isn’t a buyer who will always be willing to take them off the market.

On October 7, U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs saw net outflows of about $161 million. Even more worth noting is that, starting September 29, there have been net outflows for seven straight trading days, totaling about $569 million.

A large redemption can have many reasons. If net outflows persist for several consecutive days, it’s important to seriously examine how demand for this funding channel is changing.

With ETFs, institutions can finally buy ETH more conveniently—but this same entry point also makes it easier for capital to exit.

On the day in question, BlackRock’s ETHA had net outflows of about $116 million. However, you can’t simply translate that into “BlackRock is bearish on Ethereum.” Redemptions and subscriptions by fund investors and the investment decisions of the fund management company should be viewed separately.

Going forward, even if one day restores net inflows, don’t rush to announce a reversal. Whether the trend of outflows has improved—and whether the price can hold steady—matters most.

ETFs lower the threshold for allocating to ETH, but they do not provide any guaranteed floor for ETH.
