Salvador continues its daily accumulation of Bitcoin, holding 7,798 coins worth over $643 million
The Salvadoran National Bitcoin Office disclosed that, over the past 7 days, the country added 7 more Bitcoins to its holdings, increasing national reserves to 7,798 coins—valued at more than $643 million based on then-current prices. The country is still following its strategy of accumulating 1 Bitcoin per day.
In a recent statement, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said that El Salvador had not met the relevant standards for public-sector holdings of crypto assets, but that an exemption was granted based on corrective measures and new commitments. The IMF previously required it to gradually stop direct purchases of Bitcoin in order to obtain a $1.4 billion credit arrangement.
IMF First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz said that, aside from documented donations, it is not expected that El Salvador will continue accumulating Bitcoin. The recent increase in holdings is allegedly funded by a private donor whose identity has not been disclosed. $BTC
