NEAR collected $29 million, but only $5.3 million went to buybacks
Since NEAR Intents (intent-based cross-chain swaps) switched on fees in February, users have paid more than $29 million in fees in total. Only about $5.3 million was actually used to buy back NEAR on the open market—less than one-fifth. The bulk went to the solvers and frontend channels that handled the orders.
Fees totaled about $7.38 million over the past 30 days, of which the protocol kept roughly $1.93 million. Under the rules, all of that goes toward buybacks. Revenue is indeed growing, but compared with NEAR’s market cap of several billion dollars, these buybacks aren’t enough to support the price.
On Binance spot, NEAR climbed from 2.31 to 5.05 in a month, more than doubling. It hit a high of 5.595 today, but has since pulled back to around 5.06—nearly a 10% drop from the peak.
I’d treat it as a long-term watchlist item for its revenue growth, rather than chasing this kind of spike.
