🚨 Vitalik warns: AI could threaten crypto security
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin warned that rapid advances in AI-powered mathematics could weaken the cryptographic systems used in the cryptocurrency industry. He specifically highlighted lattice-based cryptography, noting that it could see significant breakthroughs over the next two years.
⚠️ This concern goes beyond quantum computing. Buterin says the industry needs to account for cryptographic systems that are vulnerable to quantum computing, as well as those that could become vulnerable to AI.
🔐 He is not recommending that people move their funds in a hurry today, but says using fresh addresses that have never been used for transactions could be a reasonable precaution. Ethereum is also exploring ways to strengthen security with more hash-based methods as part of its post-quantum roadmap.
