BlackRock was still buying on Tuesday, then led the selling on Wednesday
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows of about $485 million on Wednesday, their largest single-day outflow since June 25. BlackRock’s IBIT alone saw $208 million leave, while Fidelity’s FBTC shed $105 million and Ark’s ARKB $102 million. All the major funds were selling.
The contrast came the day before. On Tuesday, IBIT had still taken in $122 million, and Bitcoin ETFs as a whole saw net inflows of $119 million. When I wrote about Ethereum ETFs that morning, I said it looked like institutions were shifting positions between the two. Then, just a day later, money started flowing out of Bitcoin ETFs too.
Prices softened along with them. Binance spot BTC is now at $82,638, after closing Wednesday at $83,321. It dipped as low as $82,227 today and has now closed lower for three days in a row.
At $485 million, the outflow is less than half a percent of the market’s $107.4 billion in total assets—not enough to call an institutional retreat. But with even IBIT selling, short-term support is getting thinner.
I’ll hold my spot positions and won’t rush to buy the dip. I’ll wait for ETF outflows to stop for a day or two before considering adding more.
