Today’s market looks like a tidal flat after the tide has gone out: the top gainers are giving back their gains, while the top losers are still being slammed into the mud on heavy volume. The lack of appetite to follow through is plain to see.
$Lobster is showing +27.62%, but its current price is only 36% of the way up its 24-hour range. It’s down 16 points over the past four hours. When I mentioned it this afternoon, it was still up more than 50%; that surge has now mostly unwound. A 78.52% range and 366.7M in volume show that there was real activity—but that was earlier. Over the past hour, volume is just 0.93x the average, and the price is still falling. This is a post-surge retreat, not buying volume pushing it higher right now.
$CAP looks a bit more respectable at +13.24%, with its price sitting around the middle of its range, at 49%. It has barely moved over the past four hours, but volume in the last hour is only half the average. It has held onto its gains, but the throttle has eased off. That looks like a low-volume breather, not continued buying pressure lifting it higher.
$MINA looks rough: down 24.83%, with its price pinned to the floor at 2% of its range. Over the past hour, volume has climbed to 1.66x the average as it continues to get hammered lower. This isn’t a slow bleed because nobody’s buying—it’s a panic sell-off, with people rushing for the exits. And even now, there’s no sign that the selling pressure is letting up.
Taken together, the picture is clear: the gainers can’t hold their highs, and the losers can’t shake off the selling pressure. In this kind of market, I’m in no rush to jump in. I’d rather wait for two signals: first, for the heavy selling among the top losers to cool off; and second, for one of the top gainers to hold near the top of its range without giving back its gains. Until then, I’ll stay on the sidelines and watch the cards, keeping my hand off the draw.
