Saudi Aramco is reportedly considering separating its gas business into an independent company under the so-called “Project Gamma,” with the possibility of a future public listing.
The move is gaining momentum amid expected growth in gas production in Saudi Arabia. The Jafurah project, estimated to cost around US$100 billion, is expected to significantly increase supply and could turn the country into a new export player.
According to estimates cited in the report, Saudi production could reach 180 billion m³ per year, leaving a significant surplus after domestic consumption.
In my view, the most interesting point isn’t just producing more gas, but how Aramco plans to turn that surplus into value. An independent company could make it easier to invest, attract capital, and even prepare the business for a future IPO.
Beyond gas, Aramco is also reportedly looking to monetize assets in areas such as energy, water, real estate, and oil storage.
