The latest Chinese newsletter is out š»
This issue is a bit of a grab bag, but in just the right wayā
Stephen King once wrote something about ācamaraderieā that reminded me why writing is worth sticking with. Not for fame, not to make money, but because while youāre writing, somewhere out there, someone is readingāand thereās an invisible thread connecting you.
Then thereās the indie game *City of Killers*āa game I think has a certain āsoul.ā Itās hard to explain what that means, but youāll understand once youāve played it. It doesnāt rely on graphics or storytelling tricks; it just has something that makes you want to stay in its world.
And thereās Wim Wendersā *Perfect Days*. The protagonist does the same things every day: cleans toilets, listens to cassette tapes, sleeps, repeats. But when you finish watching, it doesnāt feel empty. Instead, you thinkāah, so this is one way to live.
I also wrote about AI aesthetic fatigue. AI-generated images are becoming more and more common, but why do they feel more tiresome the more we look at them? I have a few half-formed thoughts, and Iām sharing them to hear what you think.
And finally, there are a few thoughts on getting back into reading before bed, and an experiment with keeping a life journal.
Thereās no single theme tying this issue together, but every piece is about something Iāve genuinely been thinking about lately.
If youāre also creating, living, and slowly figuring out how to bring the two togetherāyou might find something that resonates.
