🔥 WHY IS ZACHXBT RESPECTED IN CRYPTO?
ZachXBT recently revealed that he spent around $349,700 of his own money posing as a customer to infiltrate a Chinese criminal network that he believes laundered over $1 billion in crypto for the Lazarus Group.
The goal was to track funds linked to the $1.5 billion Bybit hack and gather on-chain data from inside the network.
According to ZachXBT, the information he obtained helped identify a cluster of wallets linked to over $12 million from the Bybit incident and contributed to Tether freezing 442,000 USDT.
What stood out to me most was the level of personal risk he was willing to take on for a major investigation.
This also raises a very practical question: if the community wants people like ZachXBT to keep tracing scams, hacks, and illicit funds, where will they get the resources to keep doing the work?
An investigator asking for funding for investigative work doesn't necessarily diminish the value of what they've contributed.
On the contrary, if we want to see more independent investigations in crypto, perhaps the question isn't just whether to ask them to keep working, but also how they can sustain that work over the long term.
