PANews reported on February 6 that a new service claimed to use artificial intelligence "neural networks" and "generators" to create fake driver's licenses and passports and successfully passed KYC checks on multiple cryptocurrency exchanges, Cointelegraph reported. And the cost is only $15. The website, called OnlyFake, generates fake driver's licenses and passports from 26 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and multiple EU countries, and accepts payments in multiple cryptocurrencies through Coinbase's merchant payment service. The service could be a boon for cryptocurrency scammers and hackers, who can use fake documents to open exchanges and bank accounts, protecting their true identities and making them harder to trace.
404 Media reported on February 5 that it successfully bypassed crypto exchange OKX’s KYC verification using a British passport photo generated by the site, which appeared to be placed on a bed sheet as if a photo had been taken. The Telegram channel also revealed that users of the site shared that they successfully used these IDs to bypass verification from various crypto exchanges and financial services providers, including Kraken, Bybit, Bitget, Huobi, and PayPal.
OnlyFake’s anonymous owner “John Wick” said the IDs can bypass KYC checks on Binance, Kraken, Bybit, Huobi, Coinbase and OKX, as well as the Neobank Revolut exchange that accepts cryptocurrencies. However, the OnlyFake website claims that it does not "create fake documents as this is illegal" and its terms state that its "templates are only for use in movies, TV shows, and web illustrations."
