Although this Aptos cycle is indeed pretty underwhelming, the talk that Aptos will stop producing blocks within the next six months is just too sensational and attention-seeking.

Aptos has seen a big outflow of on-chain capital, on-chain TVL has crashed, and the price of $APT has also been on a continuous downtrend—but based on these fundamentals, anyone claiming Aptos will stop its chain is either foolish or malicious.

Aptos is a sovereign, independent L1 chain, not an L2. You can’t treat it like an L2 such as what @blast does: if the official sequencer is shut down, block production simply stops.

The difficulty of an L1 chain going offline is about one order of magnitude higher than an L2. For a PoS L1 like Aptos, you would need more than 1/3 of validators to go offline so that consensus can’t be reached and block production can be stopped. It’s not something the team can accomplish by pressing a single shutdown button.

Take Terra’s “death spiral” collapse as an example with the Terra chain. Even to this day, Terra Classic is still producing blocks—despite the fact that on-chain TVL is only around $1 million.
