BTC didn’t move at all all day, yet both longs and shorts still each took a slap.

Coinglass data: In the past 24 hours, liquidations across the entire market totaled about $50.65 million—long liquidations of $23.53 million and short liquidations of $27.12 million. BTC only churned within a few hundred dollars up and down, but contract traders still got a double-kill. More than 40,000 people worldwide were swept out. The largest single liquidation occurred on Hyperliquid—one order for $523,000.

By coin: BTC long liquidations were $1.66 million, and short liquidations were $1.51 million; ETH long liquidations were $0.89 million, and short liquidations were $1.76 million—this time, ETH’s shorts took the hardest hit.

How to look at it: A range-bound, trendless market is the most expensive one. Both sides of the trade are paying tuition to the exchange. When price action grinds you down, at least your position still exists; when leverage grinds you down, you’re left with only the liquidation button. To ride this kind of choppy market, patience with spot is far more practical than high-multiple perpetuals—at least your position won’t vanish out of thin air just because the market is ranging.
