Holding a Meme coin, enjoying a free ride on the Nasdaq 100 index.
On September 28, Binance announced an airdrop of QQQB to qualified holders of the Meme coin “Niulai”—in other words, an on-chain stock token for the Nasdaq 100 Index ETF. The mechanics are pretty wild: the airdrop comes in two parts—one is distributed by the project team directly on-chain, and the other is 30% of the spot trading fees Binance earns from “Niulai.” Binance uses that portion to continuously buy QQQB and then sends it to holders. Meme players didn’t spend a cent, but got exposure to a U.S. stock index.
On-chain data snapshot (GMGN):
1. QQQB ranks near the top of the BSC 24-hour hot list, with roughly $27.58 million in trading volume
2. There are 309,000 token-holding addresses, with a market value of about $66 million
3. The price is around $752, pegged to the Invesco QQQ underlying share
How to look at it: Tokenizing stocks has shifted from “compliance-first on-chain” to “subsidized user acquisition.” The logic is actually pretty straightforward: Meme players want hype and airdrops; stock tokens need holders. Using 30% of trading fees to buy QQQB and send it out effectively turns Meme’s trading tax into user onboarding for themselves. But two things need to be kept clear: First, even if QQQB is “on-chain,” it is essentially still the Nasdaq 100—if the U.S. market adjusts after the opening, QQQB will drop too. Don’t treat it as an independent altcoin to chase higher. Second, the airdrop is calculated based on qualifying holdings each day—there’s no fixed ratio. The amount you get depends on how many participants join. Anyone expecting to “just buy a bit of a Meme coin and lie back to receive U.S. stock exposure” will likely be disappointed.
I expect this new game of holding tokens to receive stock will become more and more common—but at the end of the day, it’s still marketing spend traded for users. Don’t get carried away.
