Anthropic invests $100 million to set up an academy, training 10,000 enterprise AI deployment engineers
Anthropic wants to directly cultivate engineers for its customers who know how to use Claude. According to an official announcement from Anthropic on October 2 (U.S. time), the company is investing $100 million to establish the “Claude Frontier Academy,” with the goal of training 10,000 “frontier deployed engineers” (Frontier Deployed Engineer, FDE) by the end of 2027. In other words, engineers who enter companies’ internal operations and turn AI from concepts into正式上线 deployments. The first cohort comes from eight companies including McKinsey and Morgan Stanley.
The first batch of trainees comes from companies and consulting firms such as Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley, and Novo Nordisk. The program will be held simultaneously in San Francisco, New York, and London. The academy uses a nomination-based approach: each company assigns its strongest engineers to participate. When they report for duty, each person must bring a Claude project that they will lead back at their company.
Anthropic said that all companies are competing to adopt AI, but the hardest talent to find is people who can make AI work in real business scenarios. Steve Corfield, Global Business Development and Partnerships lead at Anthropic, said: “Claude Frontier Academy trains people using the way we ourselves learn as engineers, hoping that graduates will set standards for how enterprises build AI internally.”
Modeled after doctor training: first tests in practice, then a 12-week internship at one’s own company
The first course, “FDE Residency,” follows the model of doctor training: learn from practitioners, practice with real cases, and earn qualifications only after passing assessments. Trainees first attend several days of in-person classes with Anthropic engineers and certified instructors, completing a full simulated enterprise AI deployment process—from selecting use cases, to security reviews, to handover. Finally, they take a practical exam in a new scenario and are scored based on performance.
Those who pass receive a “Claude Resident Engineer” badge and move into a 12-week internship period, where they will lead a Claude application project in their own company with support from Anthropic engineers on the sidelines. After the 12 weeks, there will be another evaluation. Those who pass receive a “Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer” badge. The first batch is expected to be produced in early 2027.
Built on Claude’s partner network, more than 175,000 certifications have been issued
This program is built on Anthropic’s Claude partner network. Anthropic stated that currently, professionals from 46,000 companies have obtained more than 175,000 Claude certifications, and nearly 4,000 people have completed the same training course used when joining Anthropic’s internal Applied AI teams.
According to a CNBC report, Shambhavi Shambhavi, Chief Operating Officer of Anthropic’s partner strategy, said that both customers and partners say they need people who understand enterprise technology and business context as well as have the highest level of AI capability to solve real problems. CNBC also mentioned that Anthropic is expected to go public later this year.
