š° Aave has moved tokenized U.S. stocks into the lending market.
With Aave V4 launching on Baseās Equities Hub, the first batch supports seven tokenized stocks: Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla. Eligible non-U.S. users can deposit these stock tokens into Aave and borrow USDC without selling their positions.
š„ But itās not correct to say demand has already exploded. After the Equities Hub went live, total deposits exceeded $8.15 million, including about $1.917 million in tokenized stocks. However, the actual amount of USDC borrowed is only about $435,000, with a utilization rate of just 5.34%. Honestly, the first step is thereābut the capital hasnāt really started moving yet.
Aaveās parameters are also fairly conservative right now: the overall collateral cap is around $29 million, the USDC supply cap is $32 million, the borrowing cap is $21 million, and the collateral factors for different stocks range from about 65% to 79%. For now, these stock tokens can only be used as collateral. They canāt be used directly to borrow, and you also canāt use one stock token to borrow against another.
ā ļø What really makes things a bit worrying is that U.S. stock trading hours donāt sync with on-chain markets. During weekends or U.S. stock holidays, prices may stay at the last official quote. If major news breaks during that time, both the collateral value and liquidation pressure could shift together once the market reopensāpossibly within a short window.
š” For Aave, this isnāt just adding a few more collateral types. Itās testing whether traditional assets can truly move into on-chain lending, liquidation, and portfolio trading. Aave is also considering introducing an AAVE burn mechanism, and plans to keep exploring real-world assets such as energy, solar, batteries, robotics, and space infrastructure. But the more pressing question is very real: can these assets generate sustained borrowing demand, rather than just being deposited and sitting there.
š¤ Do you think tokenized U.S. stocks will become DeFiās new collateral, or will they get stuck first on liquidity and liquidation issues?
