#Base Cobalt upgrade countdown is on. The easiest thing to misread are the two timelines: one is Base’s planned mainnet upgrade, and the other is Binance’s temporary arrangement for Base network token deposits and withdrawals. Base’s official status page lists the Cobalt mainnet window as 18:00–20:00 UTC on September 30, which is 02:00–04:00 Beijing time on October 1. Binance’s September 28 announcement, however, plans to bring forward the timing by about one hour, pausing deposits and withdrawals for that network token at around 01:00 Beijing time on October 1. All of these are future arrangements; as of the time this article was prepared, it’s still not appropriate to say “already upgraded” or “already paused”.

First, see how far the event has progressed. The upgrade window for Base’s Sepolia testnet on September 23 has been marked as completed; the mainnet is still listed as scheduled for September 30. Base requires mainnet node operators to upgrade to v1.4.2 or later. Completing the testnet provides a validation baseline for developers, but it can’t guarantee a zero-failure mainnet rollout, nor can you treat testnet functionality as a proven “go-live” feature for all mainnet users. The next hard signal is whether the status page marks the mainnet window as completed, and whether nodes and applications continue normal service.

Next, see what exactly is being upgraded. Base’s development documentation outlines improvements to the B20 token standard, including paying transaction fees with eligible B20 tokens; it also lists conditional transactions whose inclusion in blocks is determined by on-chain state, as well as a node dynamic upgrade mechanism. However, the documentation clearly states that for this upgrade, the dynamic upgrade runs on the mainnet first in a mode that only collects metrics. The conditional transaction interface remains experimental; the mainnet and Sepolia availability has not yet been confirmed. Technical scope doesn’t mean every wallet or application can use the features immediately that night, and it certainly doesn’t allow you to infer that a particular token will benefit or rise.

Finally, see what ordinary users might run into. Binance says the pause applies to Base network token deposits and withdrawals; related token trading within the site is not affected by this arrangement. Deposits and withdrawals will be reopened once the upgraded network is recognized as stable, and Binance will not issue a separate recovery announcement. Here, “trading is normal” doesn’t mean cross-platform transfers are functioning as usual, and it doesn’t mean all apps’ on-chain interactions won’t be impacted by the upgrade window. If you have transfers that must be completed on time, rely on the platform’s real-time deposit/withdrawal page and Base’s status page—don’t assume that 02:00 is definitely when funds will arrive or when features will definitely be live.

I will continue checking three points: whether Base mainnet status has moved from “planned” to “completed,” whether the conditional transaction interface is clearly opened for the mainnet, and when Binance Base network deposits and withdrawals will be restored.
