๐บ๐ธ California has just banned public officials from launching their own memecoins.
Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 2409, which prohibits the relevant elected officials and public officials in California from issuing a memecoin.
The law goes further by targeting their distribution to the public. Crypto service providers will not be able to offer California residents certain new memecoins issued by, or in partnership with, federal, state, or local public officials.
The platform restriction applies to tokens issued starting January 1, 2027.
