These two data groups can cause significant market volatility because they both affect expectations for the Fed’s monetary policy.
A GDP figure lower than the prior period will show that the growth momentum is slowing, while a higher PCE reflects that inflationary pressure is still present.
By 02/10, if Nonfarm is weaker than forecast but unemployment remains stable, the market may focus more on the likelihood that the Fed continues to ease. Conversely, stronger-than-expected jobs data could shift these expectations.
