The Bitwise NEAR fund filing has been approved and NYSE Arca has confirmed its listing. Its prospectus states that, under normal conditions, the fund intends to allocate 100% of its NEAR assets to staking and hold about 67% of staking rewards.
It sounds almost perfect:
NEAR + staking yield.
But there’s a trade-off.
Staked NEAR isn’t instantly liquid.
The protocol requires 2–4 epochs to unstake, with epochs targeted at roughly 12 hours. So Bitwise expects normal redemptions at T+2, with a warning that stressed conditions may extend the process.
This particular part is what I find interesting.
A custodial wrapper can turn staking yield into a portfolio advantage —
but it can’t change the blockchain’s immutability into instant liquidity.
So the metric I’ll watch isn’t just ETF flows.
It’s how much NEAR remains staked, and how the fund handles redemptions during volatility.
That’s where the institutional model is put to the test.
