French justice is trying to understand how a 45-year-old French woman was able to build such a real-estate empire, in particular thanks to cryptocurrencies.
Born in Russia and naturalized French in 2017, Svetlana A. is said to have spent more than €50 million in just 2022 to buy a hundred apartments and three villas in Dubai.
Among her acquisitions is a five-storey building comprising 73 apartments, bought for about €17.4 million.
Her rentals are said to have generated at least €4M between 2022 and 2025.
Arrested in July in the Alpes-Maritimes, she has since been charged and placed in pretrial detention in Paris, including for fraud in an organized gang, aggravated money laundering of tax fraud, and criminal association.
According to a judicial source quoted by Le Monde, investigators suspect in particular the manipulation of the price of a cryptocurrency, which may have helped finance these acquisitions.
