The Banco del Tesoro closed August with one of those ledgers you don’t see every month in Venezuelan banking. According to the report from the consulting firm Aristimuño Herrera & Asociados, the institution increased its positions in almost all the key indicators of the system: deposits, net income, return on assets and return on equity. And while at first glance it may seem like a desk issue, the move has direct repercussions in the P2P market and in the wallets of those who buy and sell USDT every day.
📊 An August with numbers that draw attention
The bank marked 21 years of operations right in the month it reported its best relative performance of the year. In return on equity (ROE), it climbed from 18th to 13th place, with a 44.6% record—above the system average—and an improvement of 11.3 percentage points versus last year. In return on assets (ROA), it moved from 19th to 14th place, landing at 9.3%.
The accumulated net result also rose: from eighth to sixth place, with an amount of 14,652.4 million bolívares—equivalent to about $26.9 million. In terms of variations, year-on-year growth was triple-digit in bolívares and more than 100% in currency, with both figures above the average of the other banks.
📈 Deposits: the thermometer that matters to the P2P
Here’s the most relevant data for the crypto ecosystem. Banco del Tesoro moved up from eighth to seventh place in deposits, closing August with 167,098 million bolívares—around $210.2 million. That represents a 7% month-over-month increase and a 678.3% year-over-year jump in local currency and 44% in dollars.
The finer detail tells a lot: growth was driven by demand accounts, which surged 688%, followed by savings accounts at 425%. In local terms: many more people and businesses are keeping their money sitting in the bank, even if only for short periods.
🔎 Why does this move USDT/VES?
Because the P2P market doesn’t float in midair. It’s fed by the flow of bolívares running through digital banking. When a bank attracts more, it means more liquidity is deposited, more transfers are available, and more active users on web platforms and mobile apps. That can translate into two opposing effects: on the one hand, more operating volume in the USDT order books; on the other, downward pressure that pushes the rate lower when the supply of bolívares overflows.
If the Treasury manages to hold onto those deposits and offer competitive rates, some of that money that today lives in stablecoins could return to savings accounts. It’s the classic tug-of-war in the Venezuelan market: the user compares returns in bolívares against the security of digital dollars.
💰 T Móvil and the battle for the digital user
On its anniversary, the institution touted the modernization of its web platform and the launch of its new T Móvil app, with the promise of faster, safer, and more versatile operations. That’s the ground where traditional banking truly competes with exchange houses and P2P exchangers: the speed of an instant transfer, with no absurd fees and at any time.
A banking app that works well reduces friction when funding accounts on crypto platforms. And when funding is easy, volume rises. That’s the most concrete connection between this report and the day-to-day life of the Venezuelan trader.
🛡️ Credits, delinquency, and the other side of the coin
The loan portfolio reached 90,467.3 million bolívares—about $113.8 million—up 9% month-over-month and up 608.9% year-over-year, well above the system average. In foreign currency, growth was 31.2%. The bank retained the eighth spot in the ranking with a 2.8% share.
What stands out is delinquency: 0.52%, below the system average, with a delinquency coverage of 1,264.3%. In other words, the entity is lending more, but with a portfolio that remains healthy. The financial intermediation ratio stood at 54.14%, and nearly half of total income came from loans.
