Binance $BNB # bought in $CRCL Circle, the stablecoin war has changed
On September 22, Binance invested $100 million in Circle, and will integrate USDC into more savings and investment products, while also preparing to reduce fees for some USDC trading pairs.
This money itself isn’t very large. Based on Circle’s current market cap of about $25.4 billion, it’s only around 0.39%, and you can’t use this to infer the actual ownership stake.
The bigger change is strategic alignment. Previously, Binance was only a distribution channel for USDC; now, as the scale of USDC, trading volume, and use cases grow, Binance may also benefit from product traffic and equity returns. Its motivation to promote USDC is clearly stronger.
This is directly positive for Circle, but there’s still one question unanswered: Coinbase is able to receive all the interest income generated from USDC within its platform—does Binance also get a similar share? So far, this hasn’t been disclosed.
So you can’t just focus on CRCL’s day-to-day rise and fall. The next steps hinge on three data points: the USDC balance on Binance, the share of USDC trading pairs, and Circle’s distribution costs. These will determine whether the $100 million purchase brings growth—or just a more expensive channel.
