🟠 Why Can’t Bitcoin Have More Than 21 Million BTC?

One of the most interesting things about Bitcoin is its limited supply.

Bitcoin’s protocol is designed so that the total supply will never exceed 21 million BTC. New BTC enter circulation through the mining process, but the amount issued over time decreases through Bitcoin’s halving mechanism.

Why does this matter?

A limited supply is one of the features that makes Bitcoin different from traditional currencies, where supply can be increased by monetary authorities.

But limited supply does NOT automatically mean the price must go up. Bitcoin’s market price is affected by many factors, including demand, market conditions, adoption and investor activity.

That’s why understanding the technology and economics behind Bitcoin is more useful than simply watching the price.
