People who trade inevitably develop a few occupational quirks.
Let me start with a few of my own:
First, my phone is always on ring— even when I sleep. I’m afraid that when the market moves, I’ll miss something if I don’t hear it. Sometimes the phone vibrates in the middle of the night, and I immediately wake up, reach for it, and check the quotes. Other times it’s just some junk text message, but I’m already awake and can’t fall back asleep for half the night.
Second, I eat extremely fast. When I was trading futures, if the market moved, I wouldn’t have time to eat at all. I’d just shove a couple of bites in and then stare at the screen. Even now, when things aren’t as tense, I still eat quickly—I can’t change it. When I have meals with friends, they’re still slowly chatting, and I’ve already finished. Then I just sit there and wait.
Third, I’m sensitive to red and green. If I go to a supermarket and see price tags that are red or green, the first thing that pops into my mind is the candlestick chart. While driving and waiting at a red light, when it turns green, the very first word that comes to mind is “it broke through.” Sounds pretty ridiculous, but it’s really a conditioned reflex.
And fourth, I don’t like talking trade with people. In real life, when others ask what I do, I say I work in internet-related things, or that I’m doing investments—I don’t get into details. It’s not that I don’t want to talk; it’s just that once I explain, nobody really understands. And when I talk about market conditions with people outside the circle, the more I talk, the more exhausting it gets.

Just now I was scrolling through my social feed and saw an old friend we used to trade with. He’s switched careers and now sells insurance.
In the comments, someone asked why he doesn’t trade anymore. He replied with a line: “Trading is not a meal that lasts forever.”
I stared at that sentence for quite a while.
To be honest, people who trade have all thought about this question sooner or later: Can I keep doing it for good? When you’re young, you’re healthy, you can stay up late, you can handle pressure, and you can also digest the ups and downs of profit and loss. But what happens when you get older? At forty or fifty, can you still keep watching the charts every day? Can you still withstand swings of tens or even hundreds of thousands at a moment’s notice?
Most people’s answers are no.
This profession—trading—looks free, but in reality it’s a “youthful” job. Your reaction speed, your energy, and your ability to take stress all decline as you age. And there’s another problem: there’s no real accumulation. If you trade for ten years, you may not be much better off than someone who’s only been at it for five.
That’s why I’ve always felt that traders need a backup plan. You can’t pour all your time and energy into trading; you need to leave yourself an exit. It could be doing other kinds of investing, learning a skill, or running a sideline business.
Someday when you don’t want to do it anymore—or you can’t keep going—you’ll at least have somewhere to go.

Unusual events usually mean something is brewing—what big move are they holding back?
The Fed is clearly hawkish, yet BTC/ETH haven’t fallen; instead, capital has flowed back in. Gold has been weighed down by high interest rates and the strength of the dollar. On September 16, the Fed raised rates by 25bp to 3.75%–4.00% and made it clear that inflation is still elevated. On September 22, Fed officials continued to release hawkish signals; Reuters reported that the market at the time assigned roughly a 90% probability to another rate hike in December.
But at the same time:
On September 21, US spot BTC ETFs saw net inflows of about $999 million. On the same day, spot ETH ETFs saw net inflows of about $270 million. BTC briefly surged above $87,300. Over the past few days, BTC has shown a strong squeeze-like push. ETH has already broken above the prior key technical resistance around $2,661, reaching $2,806.
So right now, the most important thing isn’t simply judging “bull vs. bear,” but this:
Risk assets are challenging a hawkish-leaning macro environment. As long as fund flows continue to support, the trend can keep going. But if ETF inflows and spot buying weaken, high leverage may amplify the downside pullback in return.
