# Canadian Bank Tokenized Deposits
Six major banks jointly conduct transfer tests for tokenized Canadian-dollar deposits. The significance of this is not in the token price, but in the settlement layer.

Canada’s six major banks form a joint project to test transfers of tokenized Canadian-dollar deposits between regulated financial institutions. TD Bank announced that it will involve the Bank of Montreal, the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, National Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, and others.

Who is affected: For cross-border and institutional-settlement narratives, as well as public-chain and stablecoin solutions, there is now an additional regulated reference point. A falsifiable conclusion: if this project ultimately remains confined to internal bank-ledger accounts and is not opened for external on-chain clearing, then its spillover effect to on-chain assets would be essentially zero.
