FTT coin: the full story from its $84 peak to the collapse
Is it worth investing in 2026?
What is an FTT coin?
FTT, or FTX Token, is the native cryptocurrency of the cryptocurrency exchange platform FTX. It is an ERC-20 token created on the Ethereum network in 2019 by the American businessman Sam Bankman-Fried.
The coin was launched to build an integrated ecosystem within the FTX platform, which once was the third-largest cryptocurrency exchange platform in the world after Binance and Coinbase.
Uses of the FTT coin in the past
Before the collapse, the FTT coin offered its holders extremely strong benefits:
1. Discount on trading fees: The more FTT you hold, the lower the fee you pay on every trade.
2. Staking: You could lock up the coin and earn annual rewards of up to 14%.
3. Participation in IEOs: FTT holders had priority when buying the new coins being listed on the platform.
4. Burning coins: The platform used to buy and burn one-third of its revenue in FTT coins to increase scarcity.
The collapse story: from $32 billion to zero
On 8 November 2022, a journalistic investigation revealed that Alameda Research (FTX’s sister company) was using FTX customers’ funds to cover its losses, and that most of its balance sheet was made up of FTT coins printed out of thin air.
In just 72 hours:
- FTT’s price crashed from $25 to $2
- Customer withdrawals exceeded $6 billion
- FTX officially announced its bankruptcy
- Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested and later sentenced to 25 years in prison
And this was the biggest scam operation in the history of digital currencies.
The price of the FTT coin today, 2026
According to today’s data:
- Current price: 0.20$ - 0.30$
- Market cap: $67 million
- Highest ever price: $84.18 on 9 September 2021
- Loss from the peak: more than 99.6%
- Circulating supply: 328 million coins
The coin is currently traded only on a few platforms like Binance and eToro, with weak daily trading volume not exceeding $1.5 million.
The future of the FTT coin: Will it come back?
Technically speaking, the project is dead. There is no development team, no real usage, and the original platform is shut down by court order.
All the heights that are happening now are due to two factors:
1. Meme speculation: Traders buy in the hope of a “legend comeback”
2. News about the bankruptcy case: Every time news is released about compensating customers, the price rises 20–30%, then falls again.
In May 2024, FTX’s bankruptcy administration announced that it would return 142% of customers’ funds, but this compensation does not include FTT coin holders as an investment.
Do I advise you to invest in FTT?
To be completely honest: no.
If you’re looking for exchange tokens, there are live and strong alternatives:
- BNB (Binance): the largest platform in the world, and its project is still ongoing
- OKB (OKX): stable growth and real use cases
- BGB (Bitget): strong performance in 2025–2026
Today, FTT is an extremely high-risk asset, and entering it is like buying a lottery ticket. If you decide to go in, don’t put more than 1% of your portfolio and be prepared to lose the entire amount.
> Summary: FTT was a harsh lesson in the crypto market, proving that even the largest platforms can collapse if there is no transparency. Its real value is now technically zero, and its current price is purely a speculative price.
